Social searching and answer boards

Social Searching is one of the most empowering things about web 2.0. I remember being blown away by amazons customer reviews at the time, and as a marketing tool it worked as I have purchased books based on the patterns of other customers with similar interests. I guess that's why it would be great to integrate librarything into the online catalogue; great way to promote reading and isn't that what it's all about!

As for answer boards well I have used one particular site (motorcycle focused) for several years now and find it not only a brilliant place to have technical questions answered by more experienced riders but also an interesting forum to socialise with individuals that share a similar passion. Mind you there are the occasional idiots on such forums and you do come across all points of view some of which you may not agree with; I guess a true microcosm of society.

Slamming the boards interesting concept but I just don't have the time to do this with any frequency. i contribute to the motorcycle forum but that's about it. i wonder if an answer board would work in a public library?

yeah I base alot of my purchase in Amazon on the reviews that people have given the book I'm interested in.
Most of the time it's quite accurate. But I also don't just stop at book reviews, I look at reviews for electronics as well.
